⚠️ Content note: This book takes a genuine turn into horror territory — if you’re sensitive to that, go in prepared!
Nora, Ruby, and Cham couldn’t be more different. There’s Nora, an athlete with a love for horror movies. Ruby, a kindergarten teacher more straight-laced than a ruler. And Cham, a mechanic with hard edges and a sailor’s mouth. Under ordinary circumstances, these three women might never have crossed paths — but a near-miss accident brings them together and reveals a secret that changes everything.
Turns out, they’ve all been dating the same man. And he hasn’t just lied to them — he’s stolen from them too.
What follows is a revenge plot that is, on paper, clever and deliciously satisfying in concept. A remote mountain cabin. A trap. A man who is about to answer for what he’s done. What could possibly go wrong?
The short answer: ev-er-y-thing.
Nothing about this plan is what it seems — not the small mountain town, not the cabin Ruby recently inherited, and certainly not the seemingly perfect accomplice who turns up at just the right moment. What was supposed to be a cleverly harmless plan in the guise of something horrifically sinister turns into a genuine fight to the death to survive one night on a secluded mountaintop.
I’ll be honest — I didn’t see the horror pivot coming, but I went with the flow, and I’m glad I did. Mallory Arnold keeps the atmosphere tense and the plot propulsive, with quick-fire revelations that kept me guessing right up to the end. The turns are somewhat wild, but they all come together in a way that genuinely satisfies. Dark, twisty, and an absolute guilty pleasure of a read.
I ♥️ me some horror!
