After a decade together, Ingrid and her steady boyfriend wonder if they’re missing out on something—or someone—better. For one month, they’ll consciously uncouple and explore their romantic options. No strings, no repercussions, no contact, and hopefully, no regrets before taking the next step together.
Ingrid immediately knows who she wants: the man she’s had a crush on for years—her library coworker, Macon. She gathers all of her gumption and guts…and falls flat on her face. Reeling on every level, Ingrid’s world unravels as this experiment stretches from one month into many. She dates and dallies with a handful of men, but nothing will be the same again—and maybe that’s the best thing that could happen to her.
Look, I hated this book. And I loved this book. My thoughts and feelings raced between extremes from chapter to chapter. I really didn’t like the first half—the “experiment” between Ingrid and her boyfriend felt distasteful, though I see how it propelled the story forward. But Ingrid’s pain and heartbreak, her anger and frustration, and ultimately her resolve and hard-won future feel achingly real and relatable.
I’m so glad I kept reading—and you should too.
I received a free ARC of this book from Netgalley and publisher Saturday Books in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.
