Butcher & Blackbird, by Brynne Weaver

This book has left me speechless in all the best ways. I simply can’t find words to describe how outstanding Brynne Weaver’s BUTCHER & BLACKBIRD is. Before I go any further, let me say that it is not a book for everyone (and that’s okay!). If violence makes you uncomfortable, if questionable conduct after some individuals are no longer living makes you queasy, or if some rather explicit kink just isn’t your jam, I would not recommend diving into the world of the Ruinous Love Trilogy.

For those of you still with me, let’s jump in. Butcher (Rowan) and Blackbird (Sloane) are rivals in the realm of murder. After meeting, Rowan is smitten and quickly concocts an annual competition so he can keep the dangerous damsel in his life. Sloane is suspicious but can’t deny the thrill she feels at the thought of not only besting the Butcher of Boston but also ridding the world of more despicable human beings. The cross-country completion brings the pair closer together–and puts them in the crosshairs of other killers and monsters. As they find what has been missing in their lives in one another, will Rowan and Sloane also find themselves out of time?

Brynne Weaver has created a one-of-a-kind world laced with biting humor, sharp wit, steamy hook-ups, and true love. While I may never be able to eat cookies and cream ice cream ever again, I will be eagerly awaiting the next story serving from this outrageously talented writer.
