None of This is True, by Lisa Jewell

NONE OF THIS IS TRUE is a fast-paced, modern thriller. I found the story to be slightly predictable, but ultimately deeply intriguing.

Popular podcaster Alix Summers meets Josie Fair at a local pub—two women celebrating their forty-fifth birthdays on the same night. What starts as a chance encounter becomes something much more sinister when Josie “investigates” Alix after their encounter. She becomes border-line obsessed with Alix and makes sure their paths cross once again, ultimately suggesting becoming a subject of Alix’s podcast.

Though Alix finds Josie unsettling, she can’t resist the pull of a compelling story. But as Josie slowly invades Alix’s life—and eventually her home—dark secrets begin to surface. Just when Alix thinks her story with Josie is ending, she discovers the strangest and most sinister of acts that will leave everyone involved changed forever.

What kept me hooked was the masterful way the author reveals Josie’s twisted family life in carefully measured drops. While I could sense the twists coming, the specific details of each revelation were genuinely jaw-dropping. Josie evolves into a shockingly depraved character—so much worse than I anticipated—making her final acts all the more chilling.
