The desire to fit in–if not to be all-out popular–is fairly universal. We all want to find “our people.” Those we can be ourselves with, comfortable, and welcome. For high school senior Lily, she has a group of friends (the Nerd Herd), but she wants more. She wants to be seen as worthy by the “it” crowd at her Ponto Beach, California, school. Even ten years after graduation, Lily is striving for that acceptance.

I had a lot of fun reading this story. Cathy Yardley writes such real and relatable characters; I always feel like I’m in the middle of each scene as a fly on the wall. It takes a moment to reacclimate myself to the real world when I pause my reading.

Tobin is the perfect match for Lily in every way. His easy charm to her discipline. His humor and joy to her seriousness and focus. His desire to live and her drive to succeed.
