One Fete in the Grave by Vickie Fee

Setting:  Dixie, Tennessee

Characters

  • Liv McKay, party planner, reluctant amateur sleuth
  • Larry Joe, Liv’s husband
  • Bubba Rowland, town councilman who meets an untimely (though memorable!) end
  • Eulyse “Dave” Davidson – Dixie Sheriff
  • Di Souther – Dixie mail carrier, Liv’s best friend, clandestine girlfriend of the Sheriff
  • Mama – Liv’s mother
  • Earl Daniels – Mama’s longtime beau and new fiance

Plot:  The town of Dixie is celebrating the Fourth of July in grand style, thanks to Liv and her party planning. Despite the disappointing results of one of the Miss Dixie Beauty Pageant contestants, the day has been a success – plenty of food, fun, and fireworks. Just as the grand finale comes to a close, a reveler finds Councilman Bubba Rowland in one of the port-a-potties . . . dead. Sheriff Dave immediately finds Liv, pulling her aside for questioning and event information. Within a few hours, a suspect emerges – one who Liv has no doubt it beyond innocent – her mother’s fiance, Earl Daniels. Liv gets the usual warning from the Sheriff to stay out of the investigation, but how does she say no to her Mama, who not only enlists her help in wedding planning but also to prove her fiance’s innocence?

Pacing:  Steady

Predictability:  Low

Wild Card:  A few days after I finished reading One Fete in the Grave, I had the opportunity to meet author Vickie Fee for ice cream. I was traveling with my mom, on vacation in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and Vickie lives in Marquette. It was such fun to meet her in person and talk about the books, ourselves, and what’s coming up for Liv and Di. As always, Vickie spins a good yarn with this third book in the series. I can’t wait to read all about Mama and Earl’s wedding!

About the Book
31929882Party planner Liv McKay has outdone herself this time. She’s put together an unforgettable Fourth of July celebration for the town of Dixie, Tennessee including breathtaking fireworks and an exciting Miss Dixie Beauty Pageant. Maybe a little too exciting.

As the party is winding down, Liv’s sense of triumph fizzles when the body of town Councilman Bubba Rowland is discovered on the festival grounds. And now the prime suspect in his murder is Liv’s mother’s fiance, Earl, who had a flare-up recently with Bubba. To clear Earl’s name, Liv and her best friend Di burst into action to smoke out the real killer before another life is extinguished . . .
