Optimistic baker Winnie Johnson is hoping to find a shiny silver lining to the death of one of her friends and neighbors. Winnie owns a bakery in the small town of Silver Lake, Ohio, but her landlord has just raised her rent significantly, endangering Winnie’s ability to stay put. Winnie is grieving the loss of her friend, but also hoping that same friend left her money when she named Winnie in her will. Such a bequest would spare Winnie even more heartbreak – the loss of her bakery. What Winnie inherits, though, is a vintage ambulance and a cat who seems to absolutely despise her.
Disappointment piles on top of Winnie’s grief and heartbreak as she goes about packing up her business. But baking has always been a comfort and a coping method for Winnie. She prepares a peach pie for another friend and neighbor who recently loss his wife. Instead of helping to comfort a friend, Winning finds her friend dead, suffocated with a pillow. In a matter of days, Winnie finds herself starting a brand new business venture, vetting possible murder suspects with a few of her best friends, and juggling two handsome men.
Eclair and Present Danger is a charming cozy mystery that exudes heart. The plot is as captivating as the characters and the recipes are described in mouth-watering detail. (I’m especially glad the s’mores bar recipe was included!) This story is full of sweet surprises and is a great treat for cozy fans and readers.

Synopsis
The first book in the delicious new Emergency Dessert Squad Mystery series from national bestselling author Laura Bradford.
With her rent rising faster than her pie crust, bakery owner Winnie Johnson had hoped to be rescued by an inheritance from her wealthy friend and neighbor Gertrude Redenbacher. Instead all she inherits is the widow’s hostile hissing tabby, Lovey, and a vintage ambulance, restored by Gertrude’s late husband. As her dream crumbles, Winnie makes her final delivery—a peach pie to an elderly widower. But she finds Bart Wagner lying on his kitchen floor, smothered by a pillow.
To comfort her frightened and grieving neighbors, Winnie comes to the rescue with her baked goods—and an idea is born: dessert delivery via her ambulance and a new business called the Emergency Dessert Squad. When she’s not speeding to the scenes of dessert emergencies, Winnie is also racing to track down Bart’s killer—before she needs to call a real ambulance for the next victim…
