Serial killer Ted Bundy is infamous. The subject of numerous books, TV specials, documentaries, and movies. He has been described as attractive and charismatic, bright and intelligent, a would-be lawyer who, but for a different choice, would have been highly sought-after in the courtroom.
However, author Kathy Kleiner Rubin has an entirely different opinion–with good reason. Kathy is one of the few women who survived an attack by Bundy. A LIGHT IN THE DARK details that encounter, but it is more Kathy’s life story than another book about a killer. She details her life, from near-fatal lupus as a pre-teen and the gruesome attack by Bundy at the Chi Omega house at Florida State University to the trial and execution and her recovery from breast cancer.
The writing is a bit lackluster, but Kathy’s story is compelling, and that is enough to drive the narrative. A LIGHT IN THE DARK also includes a list of all of the women and girls who lost their lives to Ted Bundy and a chapter on ways to honor them.
