Our Infinite Fates, by Laura Steven

For hundreds of years, in life after life, two things are true for Evelyn and Arden: they have an undeniable and inescapable bond, and they will murder one another before they reach 18. Is it love that is eternal? Or hate?

In modern-day Wales, Evelyn is on edge, counting the days until her eighteenth birthday. She knows what’s coming–her death at the hands of her true love, Arden. But he hasn’t revealed himself to her yet, and Evelyn has an urgent need to live: saving her little sister.

This beautifully composed novel takes readers around the world and across time as we revisit some of the past lives Evelyn and Arden inhabited. Regardless of class, gender, or location, the tie that binds the lovers together never fails to tug them to their inevitable end. While Evelyn’s memories are hazy and broken, Arden cannot forget a single detail, shouldering alone the secret of their infinite fates.

Like Evelyn, I spent much of the story struggling to fit the pieces of this mysterious puzzle together. I was decidedly unprepared for the twist that revealed why the pair reincarnated over and over again, with heartbreaking results every time.

I respect the hell out of this book. With every detail, author Laura Steven set herself a bigger and bigger challenge: making the ultimate reveal worthy of the emotional investment readers had made. She met that challenge admirably and memorably.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the complimentary ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
