I have a confession: I talk to inanimate objects. A lot. To date, none of them have talked back. (But a girl can dream!)
The title character in this young adult mystery is, in fact, an inanimate object: a typewriter named Olivetti. He was a gift to Beatrice Brindle upon her engagement to her husband, Felix. Olivetti watches as the Brindle family begins and grows. Beatrice is faithful in typing out daily reflections–what she calls her tapestries–and teaches her four children to use his keys. Olivetti is a beloved member of the family…up until the day when Beatrice leaves him at a local pawn shop in exchange for a very specific amount of money. With the help of this magical typewriter, Beatrice’s son, Ernest, leads the search to find where Beatrice has gone by resisting the truths and stories she once entrusted to Olivetti.
Olivetti’s narration is witty and peppered with humor and heart. The story is sweet and heartfelt, reminding all readers that “Strength isn’t about what you can do; it’s about what you can endure.”
Omg me too!!
