What makes a family?
Does DNA pre-destin a person to greatness or even cruelty?
Those questions are at the heart of this dark and atmospheric thriller from author Lisa Unger.

The storylines of several characters swing between past and present to set the stage. The secluded cabin in the title–while described as an ideal, high-end escape–becomes the final destination for all of the characters before the ugly truth is finally and fully revealed. Along the way, readers are introduced to a cast of characters haunted by secrets and lies, and gut-wrenching choices with far-reaching consequences will have to be made if anything will make it until morning.

There are plenty of easy assumptions and false leads to keep readers sufficiently puzzled until the final page.
