I was absolutely delighted to receive a free digital ARC of INHERITANCE from Netgalley.
I’ve been excited about this story since I first read that it was coming out. It is a story that spans hundreds of years, involving seven doomed brides and a current-day graphic designer who is unknowingly the key to solving a frightening and complex mystery. Sonya is about to be married, but she calls everything off after finding her fiance in bed with her cousin. When he makes work unbearable–they were coworkers at a firm–Sonya decides that it’s time to strike out on her own. She has the support of Cleo, her best friend, and Winter, her mother, and she’ll need it given the news a lawyer brings on a cold and snowy night.
An only child, Sonya lost her father years earlier and never knew she had any extended family on his side. But now she learns that her father was actually a twin, her uncle has recently passed away, and she now owns a manor house in Maine. Sonya moves from Boston to Maine, taking up residence at Lost Bride Manor. It’s the kind of home she’s dreamed of…well, except for the ghosts.
I really enjoyed the story. At first, Sonya felt somewhat flat and remote–until she got to the Manor. I like how her character gained depth and humanity as she settled in, experienced the haunting, and engaged with Trey and the other characters. The plot is intriguing, even frightening at times. And the cliffhanger of an ending has me on tenterhooks waiting for book two, which cannot be released soon enough!
Very well written!
