Keeper of Enchanted Rooms, by Charlie N. Holmberg

You’ve heard of haunted houses, but what about an enchanted house?

When Merritt Fernsby learns he has inherited a house on an island in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, he can’t believe his good fortune. Merritt is on his own, having been estranged from his family for many years, so a home of his own, far from the bustle of Boston, would be the perfect place to work on his second novel. That is until the library begins throwing books at him. And until the upstairs hallway begins raining blood-red paint. And, of course, until the sitting room swallows whole the chair he is sitting in.

Enter Hulda Larkin. The serious and straight-laced housekeeper is specially trained to deal with magically enhanced houses, and she moves in to help tame the estate. As Hulda and Merritt look to discover the house’s magical source, both of their pasts creep into the present and threaten their future.

I was delighted with this book! Historical fiction with magic and fantasy, humor and drama, and just the smallest touch of romance. Enchanting, indeed!
