The Starless Sea, by Erin Morgenstern

Imagine finding a book on the shelf at the library or a bookstore. The stories are a little magical; a little mysterious. You take the book home and settle in to keep reading. You turn the page. The next story feels strangely familiar–more of a memory. And that’s when you realize that it is a memory–the character in the story on the page of the book in your hands is you. And the story’s end is unknown.

That’s what happens to graduate student Zachary in The Starless Sea. He can’t escape the mystery of that book he stumbled on in the library. Soon, clues and odd coincidences converge to draw Zachary into an underground labyrinth of books and cozy reading nooks; a place that feels both safe and dangerous, known and unknown, new and ancient.

There is a lot going on in this book! Stories within stories and characters who appear in various forms throughout several fictional worlds. The Starless Sea is a book you can truly lose yourself in. Don’t try to figure out the plot or twists–simply surrender yourself to the story and the magic Erin Morgenstern creates.
