For most people traveling to Mexico, the thing to worry about is drinking the water. For Poppy Fields, the worry list includes paparazzi, drug cartels, vindictive fellow almost-celebrities, and all-caps-text messages from her dead sort-of boyfriend. Poor Poppy is just looking for a little rest and relaxation after a shocking loss. But even a stay at a brand new luxury resort in Cabo can’t help when the head of a drug cartel snags her en route to the airport. Now she not only has to figure out how to stay alive, but also how to befriend killer chihuahua . . . oh, and escape.
Fields’ Guide to Abduction is the start of a new series from Julie Mulhern, author of the Country Club Mystery series. (She also wrote the Haunting Desire books, which YOU SHOULD TOTALLY CHECK OUT.) Poppy is an intriguing character–smart, snappy, and stylish. It took me a little bit to get fully hooked into the story, but once I was in I was all in. The book is fast-paced and filled with moments of action and humor, as well. Can’t wait to see what Poppy gets up to next!
About the Book
Dead body #1 found in bed, with me. That was a shock.
Dead body #2 found in bed, not with me. That was a relief.
Dead body #3 died telling me I’m a lousy actress. I already knew that.
Dead body #4 died trying to kill me.
Dead body #5 died kidnapping me.
Dead body #6 died guarding me.
Dead body #7 was a really bad man.
Dead body #8 was an even worse man.
That’s a lot of dead bodies for a girl looking for a week’s relaxation in Cabo. And, I’m probably leaving a few out—math isn’t my thing. Unless I can escape the cartel, I might be the next dead body.
